The Infrastructure Solutions Designer is expected to Research, Design, Plan, Build and prepare for production implementation all distributed computing infrastructure solutions for incorporation into the business units as required.
Major accountabilities of position:
- Evaluating, planning and deploying distributed computing infrastructure cost effectively
- Managing risks and business service levels
- Investigate opportunities to reduce costs and complexity within the distributed computing infrastructure and make recommendations for adoption where required.
- Development of migration and evolution plans for distributed computing infrastructure products.
- Build, Test, Implement and handover of distributed computing solutions into the production environment.
- Maintain and recommend Architecture and Security Standards for the distributed computing environment.
- Liaise with application development teams and architects to ensure early identification of application impacts on the businesses distributed computing environments.
- Support responsibilities
- Provide SME level support for distributed computing hardware and software where and when required.
Knowledge and Experience:
- 5 + years experience in large-scale infrastructure design and implementation
- 5 + years experience in various operating systems or internet based application support role
- 3 + years experience in a financial organisation (desirable but not mandatory)
Technical knowledge & experience in 2 or more of the following disciplines at expert level:
- Unix (AIX)
- SAN Storage
- Server Virtualisation (e.g. VMware)
- Back-up / Restore
- Active Directory
- SOE principles of operation
- DNS / DHCP / WINS / Name Services
- TCP/IP Networking principles
- Contemporary Server hardware
- Accreditation appropriate to the above disciplines.
